Perhaps persuading a model shop to attend with kits and figures would widen the appeal to likes of our own Granty (contributor to this forum) and others who may still game and model in the old style Airfix manner, which includes me!
We've not had any of them approach us so far so no traditional modelling type companies on the waiting list I'm afraid. There's one in Redcar but he's a one-man band as far as I know and I'm not sure if he'd want to close the shop to attend.

In other news...!

In 2018 we were very pleased to have the Battlefields Trust at our event, giving talks on local battles from the English Civil War. These were received extremely well, as was the fantastic Piercebridge model brought along by Mark Hornsby, so we're hoping to keep these as a feature in our future shows. For 2019 we've got:

Civil Insolencies
The Battlefields Trust are pleased to announce the launch of the publication Civil Insolencies; poetry by Bob Beagrie. Civil Insolencies explores the events and characters involved in the lead up, conflict and aftermath of the Battle of Guisborough (16th January 1643).

To accompany this, Phil Philo (Chair of the Battlefields Trust) will give a talk on the Battle of Guisborough, while the Battlefields Trust's Model maker in residence, Mark Hornsby, will also be revealing his latest model for the Battle of Guisborough downstairs in the main hall.

Ready to Bleed
Arran Johnston (Director of the Scottish Battlefields Trust) will be attending Battleground to speak on both the armies of the Scottish Covenant and the Battle of Newburn Ford. He will be promoting his latest publication, Ready to Bleed: The Armies of the Scottish Covenant (1639-47) which describes the formation of the Covenant army, its campaigns, strengths and weaknesses, and will be released in December. He will also have copies of Essential Agony: The Battle of Dunbar available to purchase (available through Helion here: https://www.helion.co.uk/essential-agon ... -1650.html )

Well it was another fun filled day at Stockton yesterday. :D

Had a good catch up with Carl & Maggy, and saw some lovely toys and games on show...even though I don't understand wargaming!!

A big thank you has to be given to Leon for keeping this free show afloat, and for organising it with new traders and games this year. Long may it continue.

Grant

P.S. Bought some plastic kits from the table top sales, and I also managed to prise some carers allowance out of Carl!! Nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more ;) ...

Well done Leon, and all who helped you in getting Battleground show up and running on the day.

Great show.
Lots of varied traders. Got some really interesting buys.
Lots of interesting games.
Sorry I didnt get time to attend talks or share with re-enactors who attended.
We had a full day arriving about 10.30am and leaving around 3pm as show wound down.
Like my Maggy, Grant doesnt quite get wargames (as a game?), but like Maggy he gets the spectacle of the games tables and the history and there was much to enjoy at show of this nature even if you dont have a particular wargames scale or set(s) of rules you follow.

Carl (definitely back next year, even if I need to spend Grants carers allowance to get through the door!)
