OMG!! They've gone and done it!!!

Well, Modelcollect have gone and done it!! Yes, they have released the 'what if' Ratte in 1/72nd scale!! Not only have they done a 'base' kit, they have also made an additional armaments pack to compliment it. Having seen both kits on sale at the Hinckley Model Show at the weekend, I can confirm that both kits do exist!!

I can't say what you get inside the Ratte kit, (re: extra parts/armaments), but having had a look on their website, it appears, (if I'm reading the plans correctly), that you only get the main turret. If you want a choice of extra armaments for it, you have to buy the 'add on' kit.

Price for both kits was £75.00 and £40.00 respectively. So, if you want this kit, you'll need a fat wallet!!

P.S. The gun turret appears to be the same one they are using for their Coastal Defence Gun, but with a 'blanking plate' provided to cover over/up the hole left for the middle barrel.

Also in the pipeline at 1/72 scale is a B52G Stratofortress. Also and again I 1/72 scale ,somewhat unbelievably a Flakturm IV G -Tower. This forms 1/4 of the Hamburg Flaktower representing one corner of that entire installation. However it was used elsewhere as a stand alone construction . In this scale it must be a massive bit of kit ,and I cant believe im saying this but...me want :? :D

Forged in Battle did a 1/100 one of these, which looked big. This must be huge and take up a large slice of table top. Has no one done a B52 in 1/72 before? Seems an obvious choice although would be a big kit.

And yes the Ratte was supposed to get one of the redundant turrets from Scharnhorst or Gneisenau when they replaced them with twin 15” gun turrets. The central gun being taken out and the hole blanked off. Interesting comparison between naval and land warfare. 11” are pop guns in a naval battle between battleships, but huge guns in a land warfare setting.

Monogram did a 1/72 B-52 kit back in the 1960's and '70's. I used to have one, and yes, it was huge.

When I saw the B-52 at Duxford, I was shocked at how narrow it was when viewed head on. The cockpit is only just wide enough for the pilot and co-pilot.

When you see one on the television, they look huge, but 'up close', they aren't that big really. :o

Ratte RRP £75.00, weapons pack RRP £50.00...but shop about as you may get them a bit cheaper.
