Re: Battleground! - Sat 25th Nov 2017

Great line up Leon. Good luck with show attendance.

For all of you anywhere near Stockington this is a great trade and demo / game show thats well worth two hours drive and the usually low entry fee (which I believe is so low this year its 0pence) so treat yourselves to a great day out.

Pity I am in Glasgow that weekend playing ancients and probably getting whooped again as happened at DerbyWorlds where I won one out of four!!

Sorry I didnt get back to you at DerbyWorlds to buy those buildings, Leon .... on Saturday night I had a "road to Damascus moment" (of a modelling kind) and ended up spending my cash on boats / ships on the Sunday, rather than on buildings! Switching from terrain to the Nile imaginings in one leap.

Re: Battleground! - Sat 25th Nov 2017

PS re Battleground at Stockton on Tees

for all those who might be interested in early 20th century wars in north east Africa eg Mad Mullah of Somalia, (not really mad) fighting off many including Brits; or Abyssinians fighting off Italians; or what ifs like Sudan if the Mahdi succesor had defeated the Brits in late Victorian period...... then pre order the Sudanese figures in 20mm from Newline as they make great warriors for all three and they come as riflemen or as spear or sword armed warriors. (Swords and rifls cast on but spears and shields cast separately!) (The spearmen can be quickly and easily converted to banner wavers for those who like flags like me!)

And a bag of 100 x 20mm will only set you back £32.50p so grab a bargain off Newline and game those Nile and Horn of Africa early 20th century "colonials". If you cant find the bag codes on the Newline website then just email Sean at Newline and let him know what you are after, he is a very helpful trader. Beautiful figures in great poses, well cast with virtually no flash to file!

CarlL

PS If you are into smaller scales then Leon is your man as he has great range of 10mm to use in same way! See Pendrakens Colonial tag on their website which includes Russo-Japanese War (but I am not sure why!) Great figures well detailed and great poses! See https://pendraken.co.uk/colonial/ or his WW1 tag where you will find East Africa and Middle East. at
https://pendraken.co.uk/world-war-i/
So if size matters go 10mm the detail is great!

John, I wish I could turn back time, go into that shop, and buy all his stock of 1/76th and 1/72nd scale stuff!!! It's true what they say, you don't miss something until it's not there anymore.

May I right be in assuming Glasgow now has no dedicated model shops??

Re: Battleground! - Sat 25th Nov 2017

We're only 10 days away from Battleground 2017 now, so for anyone unsure of where the venue is, here's the directions!

By Road:
Coming down from the North on the A19 (Sunderland, Newcastle, Scotland, etc.) - https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_3 … eb771f.pdf
Coming from the East on the A66 (Middlesbrough town, Whitby, Scarborough, etc.) - https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_4 … 7dccd5.pdf
Coming up from the South on the A19 (York, Harrogate, Leeds, Sheffield, etc.) - https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_f … 3efb95.pdf
Coming over from the West on the A66 (Darlington, Cumbria, etc.) - https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5e7f9e_4 … f20ae0.pdf

By Bus:

Regular services run from Stockton and Middlesbrough to Teesdale and X1 services from Newcastle, Durham, Sedgefield and Middlesbrough stop outside the Holliday Building on University Boulevard.  There are several bus stops on the campus, the closest ones for Battleground being either the Holliday Building stop, or outside the Stockton Riverside College.

By Train:
East Coast Main Line operate high speed services from London, York and Edinburgh to Darlington, with a connection to Thornaby Railway Station.

The Transpennine Express provides a direct approximately hourly service from Manchester Airport, Manchester, Leeds and York to Thornaby.

Northern Rail operate a regular service from Saltburn to Newcastle and Bishop Aukland that stops at Thornaby and Durham.

Once you arrive at Thornaby Station, climb the steps and turn right onto the footbridge.  Walk over the footbridge and turn right along Station Street.  At the roundabout go straight over onto Harvard Avenue, signposted 'University Campus', with the glass fronted buildings on your right.  Continue down this road, past the entrance to Stockton Riverside College, until you reach another roundabout.  Turn right here, signposted 'University of Durham'.  As you reach another roundabout, the venue will be to your right, a white and grey building with the curved sports hall roof visible and 'Durham University Sports' written on the side.
