new african terrain

one of the conequences of having a profesional gardner for a wife is that i sometimes have to wander around garden centres looking at all things gardening, this may sound bad but there are some great fishtank and aquarium buildings and terrain available at these places.
one of the things i always look at are the water feature parts and when ottery st mary garden centre had a massive water feature rebuild they were selling off lots of the waterfalls which to me looked just like rocky out crops so i had to buy one, i think it was about £15.
i had a few ideas on the way home and ended up with this:-
DSCN8279.jpg
the piece is in a sort of hard rubber and had a hole in it for the fountain but easily filled, i stuck it to some 3mm mdf and added some paper mache to make the rocks meet the board as it not flat underneth.
DSCN8276.jpg
the truck is a 1/72 unimog for sizing.
DSCN8278.jpg
i coated the paper mache with some filler and added some grit for the rock fall effects.
DSCN8280.jpg
now we have a sort of easily fortified rocky out crop where no vehicles can access, hoping to use it very soon
thanks for looking

Great idea and even better putting it into practice!
No vehicle? but I saw a "unimog" scale those heights in your photo?! wink
Must have been a helicopter drop, off target?!

Re: new african terrain

Its a great idea that could be used for WW1 battle scenery in Alps between Italy and Austrian empire that was?
Italian Apennine spine in WW2 Italy?
Or the Caucasus in WW2?
Possibly late Spanish Civil in Pyrenees?
So not just an African adventure!!
Great alteral thinking Shaun and lovely paint job and photos. Very stimulating of my little grey cells.

Re: new african terrain

Apologies to the late 20th century early 21st century gamers as I missed out the more obvious choices like Korea, Afghanistan or mountainous fringes of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Tibet, to name the more obvious.
Of course you could be doing Che in South American mountains (did Che get that far inland?)

You do the work, I'll bring the camera, and then do a write up of the days escapades for the Journal smile

Looking at it Shaun, I immediately thought of Spion Kop for some reason.
