Re: Santa
Just read a book on Cromwell, i cant say i fancy having a pint with him ,not that he would have went anyway ,he wasn't exactly a hoot. Losing his son told on what was already a less than jolly character. a seriously unhappy man at heart I feel.dadlamassu wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 08:51On 19 December 1643, an ordinance was passed encouraging subjects to treat the mid-winter period 'with the more solemn humiliation because it may call to remembrance our sins, and the sins of our forefathers, who have turned this feast, pretending the memory of Christ, into an extreme forgetfulness of him, by giving liberty to carnal and sensual delights'. The rejection of Christmas as a joyful period was reiterated when a 1644 ordinance confirmed the abolition of the feasts of Christmas, Easter and Whitsun. From this point until the Restoration in 1660, Christmas was officially illegal. Although Cromwell himself did not initiate the banning of Christmas, his rise to power certainly resulted in the promotion of measures that severely curtailed such celebrations. Nevertheless the Puritans' prohibition of Christmas proved very unpopular, and pro-Christmas riots broke out.

A very appropriate and worthy effort Alandadlamassu wrote: ↑06 Dec 2019, 19:37 Decided to do something different this Christmas. Not asking for anything at all, nor expecting anything - we have asked friends and family to donate a small gift. Because a small group of us (6) and a local cafe will be running a Christmas Dinner event for the local folk who would be lonely on the day. We have had nominations from churches, charities and other groups. The gifts will be given out by our very own Santa (not me).

I`m NOT expected to gain much new info, but After the Battle are the gold standard, so i`d expect good maps and lots of photos. The book also goes onto Tunisia and the finish of the NA campaign, I`m hoping for better coverage than their Desert War volumebannockburn bhoy wrote: ↑07 Dec 2019, 14:59Is there actually anything on Torch you don't already know RichardDo you have Vichy forces or do you just double up

What is the largest vessel that can be realistically used in Cruel Seas Will. Looked at the Black Seas game , you could end up spending a serious amount of boodle on that game ,aesthetics look good all the same.

I have seen games with destroyers, but that's over the top in my opinion. My largest will be some MDF merchantmen (not purchased yet) and/or armed auxiliary vessels and maybe later landing craft.bannockburn bhoy wrote: ↑09 Dec 2019, 00:37What is the largest vessel that can be realistically used in Cruel Seas Will. What's the point of doing one period, when you can do them all.......... In life most people specialise so gradually they know more and more about less and less so eventually they know everything about nothing. I work on a broad front so eventually I'll know nothing about everything.
