The signals van is a conversion of one of a batch of IHC diecast toy trucks that Bill Krieg kindly sent me. I added new wheels and tires, a driver, rooftop stowage, and some details like front leaf springs and starter crank handle. The result is a reasonable stand-in for one of the elderly Fiat 15ter vans still in Italian service in 1940-41. The second van will be given a similar conversion, but in desert sand.

David, will be looking forward to seeing this conversion. I have one of those tanker trucks sitting here waiting for me to decide it's fate. Bill

A WIP view of the "Fiat 15ter" light cargo truck. The original tanker body has been removed, along with the original wheels and axles. Since I will be omitting the windshield, the gap for it has been filled in with Evergreen plastic strip, and a resin clone of a Skytrex driver figure installed. A tropical helmet has replaced his original bustina field cap. Although a completely open cab would be more accurate for this type vehicle, the cab doors on the IHC model are very solidly cast as part of the metal chassis, defying easy removal. I'll just be content with filling in the gaps behind the doors with plastic card.

A set of new resin wheels are laid out with new wire axles. Being the lazy sort, rather than scratchbuild a new cargo body, I simply adapted one from one of my resin GAZ-AA/AAA or Ford AA trucks to fit the IHC chassis. It will sit slightly higher than it should, due to the IHC model having rear fenders that were not present on the Fiat 15ter cargo truck, but close enough for government work.

And here it is done, along with the second signals van conversion:

Here are some cheap diecasts that I refurbished a while back:
First off, a 1:87 scale 'Army Force' VAB (albeit with what looks suspiciously like an a LAV 25 turret!)
Just replaced the plastic gun barrels with brass tube and added a brass wire aerial, then a simple re-paint job
No markings yet as I want to get some custom decals done for my 'Imaginations' forces

Next up - a Chinese diecast and plastic T54/55 - about 1:100 scale (so fine for 15mm figures)
Diecast (and bent!) gun barrel relaced with alumuinium tube, Peter Pig DShK AA gun added, Infra red searchlight from a Minitanks spares set and brass wire aerial. I left the grossly inaccurate running gear 'as-is' for now
Again a simple re-paint

Finally 'before and after' (actually two toys, one re-worked, the other pending, but you get the idea). Another Chinese diecast and plastic toy, loosely based on a Chieftain. About 1:120 scale, so also works with 15mm figures
Turret removed and original fitting pin replaced. 1 cm diameter washer added on top of the hull to raise the turret. Diecast gun barrel replaced with alumininum tube and aerial from brass wire. Then re-painted in my (now usual!) style that I copied from posts in the 'Tales from the Man Cave' blog:

These will never be marvellous - but good enough for my games!

You did quite a lot to get something table-ready out of those simple toys!
