Oh he is going ancients on us now?!?

Post by CarlL »

OK it really was an 'ancients' model when it began, inspired by a friend, Dave H., who had this model some 30years ago when we played DBA in its early years and I bought one to make up!! Yes that long ago!
(Until last week it had been cleaned and primed only!) Now its finished and I think what was once intended as a DBA fort (it was far too big for that) nowadays I think it would make a great back drop to any "modern" game in 20th century Balkan Wars, or WW1 or WW2 that touchs Greece, or its islands like Crete, or at a push Sicily and north Africa, where there were Greek colonies.
A similar model (same it seems) is still available if you want one see either https://magneticdisplays.co.uk/models/grendel/acropolis or https://www.oldschoolminiatures.co.uk/r ... -212-p.asp

I had always imagined a huge rock outcrop base but I have nowhere to store same and at time of completing last week no suitable material for a big rock outcrop and I didnt want to lose the mojo and not complete it; so the base is essentially an off cut of hardboard, with two pieces of polystyrene and then much PVA, sand and grit! (The budgie type grit!) Then paint! some smooth cement paint and much cheap acrylic model paint, cheap but not nasty I hasten to add.
Hope you think it was worht a look.

Looks the business, even if 30 years late
What's the point of doing one period, when you can do them all.......... In life most people specialise so gradually they know more and more about less and less so eventually they know everything about nothing. I work on a broad front so eventually I'll know nothing about everything.
