Crusader AA?

Does anyone know what happened to the Crusader AA tanks that were taken to Normandy? I have a recollection the crews were used as replacement tank crew, but what happened to the vehicles? Did they take the turrets off and use them for ammo resupply or anything like that?

Cheers Fred.

crusader aa mk 1's (40mm) seemed to have been less used after early normany as very few pics, the mk2's (20mm) on the other hand were used until at least the bulge as there are pics of them in winter camo, some were used as ground support other seem to have been used as run arounds.
not sure about removing turrets.

Those you see later on are mostly command vehicles for Achilles or Wolverine troops - guns may well be dummies.

Were some not converted to gun tractors for towing the 17pdr?? Or were these completely different vehicles?

I think those were done from incompleted tanks, it is a pretty major job !

yes a major job with half of the tank missing, they were also in service at the same time so not converted aa tanks.
