Airfix Scammel transporter question

Post by Richard B. »

Probably a stupid question by what scale was the old Airfix Scammel transporter kit??

I have one sitting in a drawer and it looks huge next to 1/76th scale tanks - was it a poor model (for Airfix) or have I totally missed how huge the real thing was??

Richard,
a quick scan of Airfix box lids, shows 1/76th and HO/OO as the two claimed scales. Latter could cover variety of sizes?
see box lid photos (if they load up)

According to Bart Vanderveen's Historic Military Vehicles Directory, tractor and trailer had an overall length of 596 inches, with a width of 114 inches and a height of 131 inches. So, in 1/76 the complete model should be 7.84" x 1.50" x 1.72". A pretty big beast of a truck...

Airfix do have a tendancy to re-scale between 1/76 and 1/72 by changeing the box
Any thing bigger than 6 is TOO BIG
