Discussion around the Second World War.
Which perhaps suggest that using the term FIRST might be misleading. I have a book detailing the Commando participation but I am sure I have read another source on this, which I think was not the John Grehan book.Russell Phillips wrote: ↑09 Jul 2020, 12:40There was one initial invasion (Operation Ironclad), the goal of which was to take Diego Suarez. The British had initially intended not to take the rest of the island, but then realised that wasn't practical, so there were three amphibious invasions (Operations Stream, Line, and Jane, collectively referred to as Operation Streamline Jane) to take the rest of the island.
The book covers everything from the initial invasion to the final Vichy surrender and Free French taking over control, so no need for a second book.
Thanks everyone for voting and commenting. I asked for feedback in several places, so now I'm collating the responses and I'll consider them all before I make my final decision.
Anyway, a neglected area like the Battle of Dakar, which might have greater claim to a FIRST, so your book will be most welcome.
