Help me choose a book title

Post by Russell Phillips »

I'm setting this up as a poll, but comments are just as welcome as votes, if not more so :)

My next book will be about the battle for Madagascar in WWII. It will cover the entire campaign, from the initial landings to the final Vichy surrender.

I’m still undecided about the title, so would appreciate your thoughts on these possibilities.

Russell,
its a campaign I know nothing about, and I bet many of the public and wargamers (excluding our Mr Baber who probably fits the exception role here) would be hard put to identify this island on a world map let alone know something about its events in WW2 ?!

So I am curious why you came to write this book, and curious enough to want to read it.

If I didn't know you (a little only, I acknowledge, but enough to want to read what you have written) then I would want a title that creates that curosity.
So far none of these possible titles create that curiosity for me, but I only glanced at them so I shall take another peak (I cant seem to read them by scrolling down and write this!)
Is there a person, an event or an image (verbal if not visual) in your telling of this history that might conjure up curiosity?
Or better still inflame curiosity?

I think it has to be 1,2, or 4 as they at least include the word Madagascar!

Of these 4 has the edge but its not inflaming my curiosity!

How many invasions were there?
Will there be a follow-up book detailing the second?
If you are such a great writer make me want to logon and respond! [Adapted]

Number two for my vote Russ, as it was a strange campaign that very few people have heard of. ;)

There was one initial invasion (Operation Ironclad), the goal of which was to take Diego Suarez. The British had initially intended not to take the rest of the island, but then realised that wasn't practical, so there were three amphibious invasions (Operations Stream, Line, and Jane, collectively referred to as Operation Streamline Jane) to take the rest of the island.

The book covers everything from the initial invasion to the final Vichy surrender and Free French taking over control, so no need for a second book.

Thanks everyone for voting and commenting. I asked for feedback in several places, so now I'm collating the responses and I'll consider them all before I make my final decision.

I'll make sure it's announced here. I'm hoping someone will review it for the website ;)

I'm hoping to include at least some maps, but I haven't got to that stage yet.
