Truths, Untruths, and damned untruths (of sorts)

Post by CarlL »

Well I see that the WSS editor, Guy Bowers, has agreed to put a statment in issue 103 of WSS / Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy, by Mark Wheeler saying we, well the bit thats SoTCW, are extinct, see page 82, "(MWD) will attempt to occupy the space left by the recently folded Journal of the Society of Twentieth Century Wargamers (SOTCW)".... I suppose (to give MW his due and he is trying to create another) the Journal has folded... but otherwise it feels like an obituary read by the ill, maybe not terminally ill, and far from dead...... but of course we (or should that be I?) may only be ghosts of a distant past.

(Well morose thinking won't get my early 20th century Iraq and Somalia projects progressed so back to the painting!)

We have the opportunity to contribute to WSS, if we choose to take it. I'll have a read and put forward an update on the Society and what we are continuing to do having set aside the journal.

Thanks Phil. It would be good to set the record straight.

I don't understand this thread and I don't know what record you want to set straight. I have said in various places that the Journal is no more(or folded) but the SOTCW will continue as an online presence.

My MWD proposal crosses very little space that the SOTCW now occupies.

What is the problem with this and what is actually incorrect ?

Hi Mark

I've now had the chance to read the piece in WSS and I don't see any reason for the title of this post.

We have chosen to fold the Journal, and with it the subscription membership model that it required.

Not everyone seems to think it is innocuous.

Someone with a TMP account might wish to point out that SOTCW is still going but not publishing a journal.

Looked polite and factual to me.

Thanks, Andy
