Re: Any other Modern gamers ?

As I read the current debate, it seems to come down to either complete control of sub units to the lowest level or imperfect control leading to an inability to predict with absolute certainty how they will act. These opposing views are then compared to the real world. Assuming my reading is correct,...

Re: Any other Modern gamers ?

The "three levels down" is as stated a real world expression of command intent; as division commander I give orders to my brigade / regiment commanders based on a knowledge of the whereabouts of individual battalions (at least that is how I interpret the historical quote). By inference, I leave the ...

Re: Any other Modern gamers ?

Well I'd argue Arab-Israeli was more than desert environment and air power and as to infantry.....well. The predominant factor would appear to be a combination of morale and training; the IDF were probably inferior in terms of technology and equipment, but far superior in the use they made of their ...

Re: Help with Roco Minitanks spares

Ian, I'm in the East Midlands. Like you I have boxes of stuff that needs a good sort out. I probably do have spare parts, but have never gone through everything systematically enough to find out! Invariably when I start a kitbash project, I know (or am fairly certain) that I have a particular vehicl...

Re: Any other Modern gamers ?

For me it was Operation Warboard by Gavin Lyall.
It became a way to use all those Airfix, Matchbox and Hasegawa models I had made.

I only discovered Roco much later, although the book mentions them (far too exotic for north Northumberland!).

Re: Any other Modern gamers ?

I got hooked with the stuff published for Twilight 2000, in particular the U.S. and Soviet vehicle guides; the former included Frank Chadwick's 1/87 conversions. I remember being particularly taken with the idea of combined Mexican and Soviet invasion of Texas (Division Cuba v 49th National Guard). ...

Re: Help with Roco Minitanks spares

It's nice to see a fellow 1/87 enthusiast as we are a rare breed in the UK! Of course, it does mean we are probably direct competitors on eBay! These days there are a few resellers who buy some of the bulk lots. Sadly none of your tracks to spare as these are all vehicles I tend to use... :( Your "I...

Re: Indo-Pakistan Wars scenarios

I'm not sure why you want scenarios specifically, as most I've seen focus on Assal Uttar: http://www.testofbattle.com/upload/bob/index.html Bob's is one of the better ones. A lot of actions in 1965 were infantry v infantry. Both India and Pakistan launched their respective 1st armoured divisions to ...
