Migrating to new forum software

I'm planning to move the forum to new software (phpBB to be precise). Development of the current software seems to have stalled, and we're getting more and more spam registrations. The new software should mean fewer spammers, and it has extra features.

I was originally hoping to import the existing threads, but it looks like that might not be possible. If it isn't, I'll make a read-only copy of the existing forum, so that things aren't lost. You'll be able to read old forum threads, but not post.

I should be able to import user accounts, although you'll probably need to reset your passwords.

This will probably all happen around the Christmas/New Year period. I'll try to remember to post updates on the SOTCW Facebook group.

All sounds good, the Guild has used phpBB for some years now and it seems okay.

phpBB is widely used. It's possibly the most widely-used forum software out there.

Re: Migrating to new forum software

Those of us at the club with Ian agree he has no sense of humour.  He has demonstrated this all too often.  As to a speech impediment, his mimicking of a lisping cavalry officer is far too good.

Re: Migrating to new forum software

Barring unforeseen problems, the forum migration will be done tonight. The forum will be unavailable for a while. I'll post updates on the SOTCW Facebook group.
